Lift heavier. Run faster. Eat clean. That’s the usual checklist for “being healthy.” But we’ve found that most guys are missing what really matters.

Traditional healthcare still runs on outdated 1900s lab work, missing critical markers that could save your life and impact how you perform, recover, and age.

Here are the labs and tests we run at 91WhiskeyRX to track real health and longevity in men:

Apolipoprotein B (ApoB): Basic labs typically cover LDL cholesterol, which doesn’t show the full picture. We check ApoB because it shows how many plaque-building particles are circulating in your blood. The fact of the matter is that you can have “normal” LDL cholesterol and still be at risk for heart disease if your ApoB is elevated.

Lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)): This is one of the most important markers most doctors don’t even test for. Lp(a) is genetically driven and significantly increases heart attack risk, regardless of how fit you are or how clean you eat. About 1 in 5 men has elevated levels and have no clue. You can’t fix it with diet, but you can plan around it once you know.

VO2 Max: VO2 Max is the single strongest predictor we have for how long you’ll live and how well you’ll perform while you’re alive. It measures how efficiently your body uses oxygen during effort and it beats BMI or the number on the scale by a mile. We use this number to track overall resilience and longevity, especially in active clients pushing performance.

Grip Strength: Grip strength is one of the most reliable low-tech indicators of overall health. It’s been shown to predict mortality, injury risk, and functional decline better than most traditional tests. We track it because it’s easy, repeatable, and incredibly telling. The best part? You don’t even need a device. Just hang from a pull-up bar and time it.

Comprehensive Metabolic Health (Glucose, Triglycerides, HDL, Waist, BP): We don’t look at blood sugar in isolation. Real metabolic health is about pattern recognition and we track a cluster of markers to spot the early signs of dysfunction. Waist circumference, fasting glucose, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and blood pressure each tell part of the story. If three or more are off, you’re officially at risk for metabolic syndrome.

Why do these tests matter? The current healthcare system is outdated, relying on incomplete, inaccurate tests that don’t tell the full story. We believe that it’s time for men to demand more from medicine and start tracking real indicators of performance and longevity.
